Jeff Walter Daniell

Dr. Jeff Walter Daniell, 91, formerly from Griffin, Georgia passed away June 14, 2016. In addition to the loving care provided by his daughter and son and their families during the last 4 years, he received excellent attention the last few months of his life from the Benton House in Sugar Hill, Gentiva Hospice, and A Hand to Hold caregivers. Dr. Daniell was born on June 29, 1924 in Cadwell, Georgia. He was the son of the late Walter and Ruby Burch Daniell. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 45 years Audrey Hickman Daniell, second wife of 12 years Rubie Brown Daniell, and his sister Annette Daniell Rowe. He is survived by his daughter Elizabeth Daniell Kimble and son-in-law Barry and his son Jeffrey Walter Daniell and daughter-in-law Cathy; all of Sugar Hill, Ga. Grandchildren are Alex and Megan Kimble and Christian and Evan Daniell. He is survived by his brother Herman B. Daniell and numerous nephews and nieces. He is also survived by Rubie’s daughter, Theresa Flanders and husband Gibbs, and son Cecil Walters ll. Their children are Daniel and Jacob Flanders and Gannon and Susannah Walters. Jeff Daniell was a veteran of the United States Army having served his country as a Pfc with a computer military occupational specialty in World War ll. Following his service, he graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering in 1948. He taught vocational agriculture in Dodge County and then worked as an Associate County Agent in Moultrie, Ga for the Georgia Extension Service before returning back to school. He received his Master of Science in Horticulture from Clemson College in 1964 and then his Doctor of Philosophy from Virginia Polytechnic Institute (Va Tech) in 1967. After completing his PhD, Dr. Daniell moved to Griffin and took a position as a researcher for University of Georgia Experiment Station with an emphasis on peaches and pecans. For his outstanding service to the Georgia Peach Industry the Peach council awarded him the title of “Mister Peach” in 1985. Dr. Daniell earned the title Professor Emeritus of Horticulture for the University of Georgia in 1999. Dr. Daniell was a 49 year member of First Baptist Church of Griffin where he was proud to help teach Sunday School for his men’s class at one point. He served the community as a member of the Kiwanis Club for numerous years. He was a proud gardener growing wonderful flowers, tomatoes, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, muscadines, watermelons, cantaloupes, and cucumbers. He enjoyed watching the Braves, Falcons, and UGA football. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Tuesday, June 21, at Conner Westbury Funeral Home and one hour prior to service on Wednesday, June 22 at First Baptist in the parlor. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at 11:00am in the Bramblett Chapel at First Baptist Griffin, Georgia with interment to follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Dr. Bill Hardee will be officiating along with his Great-Nephew David Rowe of Cadwell, Georgia. Pallbearers will be Alex Kimble, Christian Daniell, Evan Daniell, Barry Kimble, Dan Rowe, Bill Rowe, Walter Daniell, Tony Daniell, Jeff Daniell Hansford and Cecil Walters ll. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to First Baptist Griffin Mission Fund, 106 W. Taylor Street Griffin, Ga 30224 or to a favorite charity in his memory.
