Ann Collier Jackson

Mrs. Ann Collier Jackson of Griffin passed away Friday, May 4, 2012, at her home. Mrs. Jackson was born in Montezuma, Georgia, November 1, 1921, and was the daughter of the late Howard Matthews Collier and Martha Ann Barrett Collier. She and her parents moved to Griffin in 1938. Mrs. Jackson attended Randolph-Macon Women's College in Lynchburg, Virginia. While in college, she met Donald George Jackson, a cadet at the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York. After both of them graduated from their respective schools, they married July 4, 1942, in Griffin. Prior to permanently settling in Griffin, Ann moved with her husband to various military bases across the U.S. Mrs. Jackson was a member of the First Baptist Church of Griffin where she served as a Sunday School director for many years. She was a member of the Dogwood Garden Club, Griffin Utility Club where she served as president from 1951-1952, Griffin Historical Society, and the hospital ladies auxiliary. Mrs. Jackson, who was known as "Mimi" by her family and friends, was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved traveling, playing bridge, and above all, her family. Her positive outlook and kind demeanor made her a true southern lady. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Jackson was preceded in death by her son, Donald Jackson, Jr. and grandson, Collier "Bo" Jackson. She is survived by her son, Collier Jackson and his wife Peggy of Griffin; daughter, Ann B. Jackson and her husband Ziad Abu-Sbeih of Griffin; grandson, Matthew Jackson and his wife Brandy of Mashpee, Massachusetts; grandson, Stewart Jackson and Gina Scott of Williamson; granddaughter, Summer Abu-Sbeih; and great-grandson Barrett Jackson. The family would like to thank those who assisted in Mrs. Jackson's care: Gevitta Elliott, Teresa Smith, and Jenny Flowers. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 6 from 1:00 to 3:00pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home and a graveside service will be conducted by Dr. Bill Hardee at 3:30pm at Oak Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the First Baptist Church of Griffin, P.O.
