Deborah A. Lewis

Deborah Alice Lewis, 68, of Jacksonville, Alabama passed away October 14, 2015. Deborah was born March 26, 1947 in Griffin, GA, the youngest of four daughters born to her parents, Imogene and Durward Lewis. Following high school graduation, Deborah joined the US Women’s Marine Corps. She graduated Suma Cum Laude from the University of Southern Mississippi at Long Beach with a degree in English. She was the owner and operator, The Village Tax Team, in Jacksonville, AL. This past year the office celebrated its 10th year of business. Deborah always found time to be involved in community activities she supported. She was active for many years with the League for Animal Welfare. She was also active in the Marine Corps League and worked hard for the Toys for Tots drive in this area. Professionally, Deborah was a member of the Alabama chapter of the Independent Tax Preparers Association for many years. She served as the president of the organization for three terms and taught several courses during the fall and spring conferences. Deborah is survived by her friend and her family, Carol Knupp; two sisters, Donna (Al) Tilson of Griffin, GA and Ruth Coleman of Florida; nieces, Stefanie Nix, Ellen Chandler, Dawn Lynch, Jennifer Carter, India Ragan; nephews, Robert Tilson and Scott Lynch and their families, nephews, and cousins; eight dogs; and three cats. A special thanks to Deborah’s family at the Village Tax Team, Rita Kelly, Jimmy Johnson, and Shirley Parker. Much gratitude is offered to the wonderfully caring and professional doctors and nurses in the ICU at Gadsden Regional Medical Center, and to Dr. Harsh Singh and Nurse Practitioner Juda Carter at the Jacksonville Med Care. Visitation for Deborah Lewis will be on Sunday, October 18, 2015 from 1:30 until 2:30 at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Following the visitation a graveside service will be conducted at 3:00pm at Oak Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Deborah name to The League for Animal Welfare, P.O.
