Ed Beall

Retired Assistant Fire Chief Ed Beall, age 70 of Griffin, passed away on Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at Spalding Regional Medical Center. Mr. Beall was born January 25, 1938 to Mrs. Zera H. Beall and the late Joe H. Beall. He was preceded in death by brother, Hugh Dorsey Beall, father-in-law, Zeddie Chappell and sister-in-law, Jean Elaine Chappell. Mr. Beall was a Retired Assistant Fire Chief with the Griffin Fire Department after 27 years of service. He was an outstanding member of the Kiwanis Club of Griffin where he served as chairman of Pancake Day, past president, and had formerly served on the Fair ground committee, and was the recipient of the George F. Hixson Fellow Award. Mr. Beall previously served on the City of Griffin/GMA Pension Committee, Interim Planning and Zoning Official in Planning and Development Department, Great Griffin Mayfling Committee, Mobile Home Coordinator for Spalding County Tax Commission. He also formerly served on the Tax Assessors and the Appeals Board. Mr. Beall was a master gardener and a volunteer for the Habitat for Humanity. Survivors include his wife Shirley C. Beall; son and daughter-in-law Donnie and Nancy Beall of Griffin; daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Barry Addison of Griffin; grandchildren, Carlee Beall, Taylor Beall, Shelley and Josh Worley, B.J. Addison; great grandchildren, Meredith Kate Worley, Joshua Cade Worley; his mother, Mrs. Zera Beall of Griffin; sister, Willa Dean Watkins of Louisville, Mississippi; brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Ann Beall of Caldonia, Mississippi; mother-in-law, Ruth Chappell of Griffin; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, August 2, 2008 at 11:00am in the Chapel of Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit the family Friday evening from 6:00pm until 9:00pm at the funeral home. Retired Fire Chief Willie Henley, Fire Chief Tommy Jones and Mr. Woody Smith will officiate. The family has asked that the Griffin Fire Dept. and the Kiwanis Club sit in a group at the services.
