Edith Wade Pittman

Mrs. Edith Wade Pittman, age 70, moved from life to eternity when she peacefully and quietly answered the call of God to come home at 4:15 p.m., Thursday, 25, 2011 at Spalding Regional Hospital in Griffin, GA, from health complications. Edith was the oldest of four children born October 10, 1940 to the late Reverend Ulysses and Nina Wade. Edith was born in Wadesboro, North Carolina and raised in Lilesville, North Carolina until the tender age of 7, at which time she left home to attend and graduate from the North Carolina State School for the Deaf and Blind in Raleigh, North Carolina. Edith held a two year technical degree and wanted very much to further her education in chemistry. She worked as a Special Chemist for Portsmouth Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia, where she eventually retired. She was a model of dedication and strength for others to emulate. Edith’s final days on this earth is a testimony to all of us on how to trust in God to the end. She will be missed more than we can express, but her legacy lives on in the loving, sweet and fond memories of her beloved and supportive husband, Hamp Pittman for 5 years. Edith will forever be remembered by her devoted brother Aubrey (Rosalyn) Wade of Rockingham, NC; brother-in-law, James O’Neal, Jr., of Okinawa, Japan; loving sisters, Arlene Cherry of Rockingham, NC, Eula Roberts of Decatur, GA; her beloved daughter, Jackie Jones of Raleigh, NC; and gallant son, Jon O’Neal of Moyock, NC; remarkable daughter-in-law (to be) Deanna Hamilton of Moyock, NC; courageous step-son Adrian Pittman. Edith will be forever treasured by her two grandchildren, whom she adored, Yamisha and Sa’Metria Jones of Raleigh, NC; endearing nieces Karen (Jeantou) DeGrammont of Decatur, GA, and Sharon Parsons of Alexandria, VA; and a brave nephew, Marlon Cherry of Rockingham, NC; along with countless other friends and family whom were blessed to know her. Edith; a devoted Christian, loved cooking, sewing, traveling, being with her family, and having fun with friends. Edith touched the lives of many people with her smile and generosity while maintaining her keen sense of humor until her heavenly father called her home. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home, officiated by Elder Aubrey Wade in Griffin, GA. Viewing will begin at 10:00 o’clock on Tuesday morning.
