Eva J. Coggins

Eva Jean Coggins, age 61 of Griffin, passed away on Sunday, July 12, 2015 at Spalding Regional Hospital. On August 8, 1953 a true songbird was gifted to the world! Eva Jean Coggins made her grand debut to her proud parents, Katie Humphrey and James Copeland. From the first moment she opened her mouth to speak the beauty and power of her voice were evident. God had truly blessed Eva with a precious gift – an anointed singing voice! Singing and playing the piano were the talents He gave her, and boy did she EVER use them!!! Throughout her life and up until two weeks before her untimely death, Eva was playing the piano and singing God’s praises. Over the years, Eva has played the piano and directed choirs for more than twenty different churches in the Spalding and Pike County areas. “Show Me Jesus, Show Me”, “I’ll Trade A Lifetime”, “Joy, Joy”, “Somewhere To Lay My Head”, “Your Grace and Mercy”, and “Home When The Roll Is Called” were some of her signature songs. Eva was a much beloved daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, niece and friend who was preceded in death by her brother, Rickey Coggins. Left to honor her legacy and cherish her memory are her mother, Katie C. Humphrey, three brothers: John (Peggy) Humphrey, Atlanta GA; Samuel (Carolyn) Coggins, and Randolph (Mary Ann) Coggins, both of Griffin GA; three sisters: Shirley Welch, Brenda (Eddie) Peavy, and Barbara Coggins, all of Griffin GA; five aunts: Annie Shannon and Mary Lizzie Walker, both of Zebulon GA; Ruby Reid, Viola (Robert) Dorsey, and Emma Coggins, all of Griffin GA; devoted “sister-cousin” Peggy Richards, special friends Netreckar McGhee and Janice Green; honorary children: Alisa Bunkley, Nicole Bunkley, DeAundra Dorsey and Joshua Sanders; loving partner Ramon Ruiz-Hernandez; Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church family, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends. Visitation for Eva J. Coggins will be on Thursday, July16, 2015 from 12:00pm until 6:00pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted on Friday, July 17, 2015 at 11:00am at Fuller Chapel United Methodist Church, 134 Meansville Street, Zebulon, GA. Reverend Rex Smith will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
