Hugh Lee Brown

Mr. Hugh Lee Brown, age 78, passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at his residence. Mr. Brown was born in Monroe, Georgia on January 17, 1935. He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Leroy Brown and Obie Lee Daves Brown; infant daughter, Susan Brown and 4 siblings. Mr. Brown worked at Sears for 38 years, while working at Sears, he obtained a master’s degree in law and became an executive buyer in the home furnishing division. In upon retiring he enjoyed selling treasures at flea markets and restoring antique furniture. Mr. Brown was strong willed and an independent person, he believed in working hard and being the first person to get it done. He tried to be the first one to get a county tag each year, when they were consecutively numbered. At home he liked answering the phone first to get the latest family news before passing it to his wife. Mr. Brown loved reading hand me down newspapers from his hometown so he could catch up on all the Hampton and Griffin news. He enjoyed tending his part time neighbor’s yard while they were away and being known as the neighborhood handyman. He was a dedicated husband and best friend to his loving wife, loving father to his children and devoted grandfather and great-grandfather. He served in the United States Marines reserves and was a member of Hampton United Methodist Church of Hampton, Georgia. Mr. Brown lived his life to the fullest and his wish was to enjoy each day and put God first in all that he did. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Peggy Brown; children, W. Edward Brown and wife Donna, Michael Brown; mother-in-law, Florence Martin; brother and sister, Eva Webb and Bill Brown; sister-in-laws, Betty Martin and Joyce Brown Turner; grandchildren, Megan Burton and husband Charlie, Amanda Warren and husband Steven, Laurel Goins and husband Judson, Megan Norred, Alex Norred and wife Heather, Michael David Brown, Tabitha Brown, Bailey Brown and Nicholas Brown; great-grandchildren, Micaela Brown, Easton Burton, Brennan Warren and Conner Norred. Visitation for Mr. Hugh Lee Brown will be on Monday, January 13, 2014 from 12:00pm until 1:30pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. A graveside service will be conducted following the visitation at 2:00pm in the Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Hampton, Georgia.
