Jacqueline J. McAlister

Jacqueline Jaynes McAlister, of Forest Park, Georgia, passed from her earthly life to be with her Lord and Savior on August 23, 2016. Jackie was born on July 5, 1931, in Ashland, Kentucky, where she spent her childhood. As an Army wife, she lived in various parts of the United States and in Germany. She spent several years of her retirement in Ashland. Jackie is survived by her son, David Lynn McAlister (Andrea) of Auburn, Alabama; her daughter, Rebecca Lee McAlister of Ashland; and her son, Joseph Edward McAlister (Cathy) of Forest Park, Georgia; and grandchildren, Jennifer Jill McAlister of Ashland, Leslie Ann McAlister and Jason Edward McAlister of Seattle, Washington; and great-grandchildren, Maggie Lynn McAlister and Charlotte Olivia McAlister, also of Seattle. Jackie is also survived by her twin sister, Geraldine “Pat” Morris of Ashland, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Preceding Jacqueline in death were her parents, Clyde and Hester Lee Hopkins Jaynes; her husband, John Ulmer McAlister, a decorated U.S. Army veteran who was killed in the Vietnam conflict; and their youngest daughter, Ramona “Mona” Beth McAlister; as well as Jackie’s brother, Clyde E. Jaynes; her sisters: Janine Jaynes, Wandaline Downing, Bonnie Jo Green Phillips, and Jessie Lanier Green Castle;. Jackie was truly devoted to her children and grandchildren, always placing their welfare above her own. She deeply loved and cared for many animals during her long lifetime. She was a talented artist, primarily painting in oils. Jackie had a strong and adventurous spirit; and she loved music, good food, dancing and spending time with family, friends and her pets. Her zest for life, steadfast perseverance and keen sense of humor will be missed profoundly. The funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 2, 2016, at the Rose Hill Burial Park Chapel in Ashland, Kentucky, with burial following in Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation with the family will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the Rose Hill Burial Park Chapel prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jackie’s memory may be made to the COPD Foundation (copdfoundation.org), the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation (pdf.org) or the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (aspca.org).
