James Shaw McMillan

James Shaw McMillan died peacefully at his beloved farm in Milner Georgia on August 14, 2013 after a five month battle with cancer at the age of 58. Jim was the son of Carolyn Shaw and Charles Huie McMillan. After attending public elementary school on St. Simons Island and middle and high school in Glynn County, Georgia, he enrolled in Southern Polytechnic University in Marietta, Georgia where he received an Associate in Civil Engineering degree. After graduation he worked as a Project Manager with the Georgia State Highway Department. He was first based in Columbus, Georgia then moved to the Griffin, Georgia GDOT office where he worked until he retired. After retirement he worked on the Weldon Farm in Milner, Georgia. Jim had a lifelong love of old farm houses, antique tractors and farm machinery. He was a member of St. George’s Episcopal Church where he served on the vestry. He attended Sunday School at the Rock Springs Methodist Church in Milner, Ga. He is survived by his daughter Melinda McMillan Allbritton and her husband Tim; two grandchildren, Blaine and Levy of Griffin, Georgia; two step children Kimberly Ann Manee and her husband Jacob, and Tommy Moniak; mother Carolyn Shaw McMillan of St. Simons Island, Georgia; brothers Charles H. McMillan III of Roswell, Georgia, Joseph L. McMillan of Jacksonville, Florida; sister Della McMillan Wilson of Gainesville, Florida, eight nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the Adult Bible Class of the Rock Springs Methodist Church for their sustained support to Jim during his illness and to extend a special thanks to Tammy Anderson, Shirley Shatzoff, Renee Johnson, Mildred Murphy, and the Compassionate Hearts Ministry of Rock Springs Methodist Church who were special friends and support during his illness. A memorial service is scheduled at St. George’s Episcopal Church, 132 N. 10th Street, Griffin, Georgia at 2 pm on Saturday, August 17, 2013 which will be followed by a short reception in the church social hall. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Milner Library, 100 Liberty Street, Milner, Georgia 30257 in memory of Mr. McMillan.
