Janie E. Miller

Janie Elizabeth Lewis- Miller was born May 1, 1952 in Rembert, South Carolina to the late Hilliard (Rhonda) Workman and the late Azalee Pringle Taylor. Janie accepted Christ at an early age and continued to serve him until her transition. Because of her excellence in academics, Janie was one of several students hand chosen to integrate to Hill Crest from another local school. She later moved to New Jersey and graduated from Barringer High School as an honor student in Newark N.J. in 1969. Her pursuit of a professional career, lead her to work for a law firm in New York as an Executive Secretary, while furthering her education at Essex County College. She also attended and graduated from Montclair State University. Janie’s path, lead her to a thirty two year career at Prudential, where she started her as a Legal Secretary and retired in 2007 as Vice President of Policy Owner Relations. After which she relocated to Atlanta, Georgia and served as Chair of her Neighborhood Watch Committee. Janie met her husband John in 1975, while bowling. They were later joined in marriage and to that union was added a daughter, Jillian and a grandson, Jayden. Janie Elizabeth was an avid bowler. She was passionate about interior decorating and helping others in need. She also loved traveling, and spending quality time with Jayden. Janie Elizabeth Lewis-Miller entered into rest on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at Emory Hospital, Downtown Atlanta. She is survived by her loving husband, John D. Miller and Eight (8) children; Jillian Miller of Atlanta, Ga., Mercedes (Greg) Worthy of Hampton, Ga., Jackie (Dwight) Fey of Atlanta, Ga., Sandra (Thomas) Ragan of McDonough, Ga., LaWanda York of Atlanta, Ga., Donameche Miller of Stockbridge, Ga., Bargette (Greg) Owens of Griffin, Ga., John Jr. (Maria) Miller of East Point, Ga.; Eighteen (18) grandchildren; and thirteen (13) great grandchildren. She is also survived by Five (5) siblings Frances Delores (Howard) Bennett of Piscataway, N.J., Hilliard E. Taylor of Rembert, S.C., Kelvin Taylor of Newark, N.J., Geneva Murphy of Rembert, S.C. and Ricky Workman of Washington, D.C. Four (4) Aunts; Josephine Spencer of Newark, N.J., Whilema Alston of Rembert, S.C., Jessie Hale of Queens, N.Y., Mary Pringle of Rembert, S.C., one (1) Great Aunt; Sarah Gardner of Rembert, S.C.; twenty four (24) nieces and nephews; two (2) sister in laws Betty Lou(Timothy) Simmons, Gracie Mae(Lawrence) Robinson and two (2) brother in laws Fred Otis(Nellie Pearl) Miller, Ernest Wesley Miller; A very special mother figure, Rosa Randall of Scotch Plains, N.J., and two (2) God children, Howard Bennett, Jr and Aleena J. Mack. A visitation for Mrs. Janie Elizabeth Lewis-Miller will be on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 from 11:00am until 1:00pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home.
