Joe Williams

Mr. William Joseph (Joe) Williams, age 77 of Griffin, went to be with Jesus on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at his residence. He had been in declining health since 2012. Mr. Williams was born in Griffin, Georgia on March 31, 1937. He is preceded in death by his mother, Vera Lawler Johnson and step father, Robert Johnson; father, Lamar Williams and step mother, Christine Williams; brothers, Daniel Williams, Jimmy McCulloch; grandparents, Vennie and William Lawler; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Troy and Beulah Dunn. He loved his family, was a good father, husband and friend to everyone. He loved playing golf and loved his former job at Barron Incorporated, where he spent 35 years of service. Mr. Williams served his country in the United States Navy on the U.S.S. Bream, SS 243. He turned down a football scholarship to enlist in the Navy. He had a memory he loved and was proud of. He named the Easy Shop Supermarket, which his father, Lamar owned at that time. He loved going on vacations with his family to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, Tennessee. He loved driving his truck and going to Living Waters Church with all his friends, Pastor and wife. He never had a Pastor he didn’t love. During his sickness, everyone treated him so nice. The family wants to say, Thank You, you made him feel special and loved. Before going to bed at night, he would always say good-night, sleep tight, don’t let the bed bugs bite, I Love You. That was the one thing he didn’t forget, even in is illness. How that will be missed! We would like to say thanks to Jimmy Dunn for always coming by to lend a helping hand. You always came when he needed you. Survivors include his wife, Betty Dunn Williams; daughters, Kathy Ussery, Sherry Fouts and husband, David; granddaughter, Julie Fouts, all of Griffin; brother and sister-in-law, Warren and Cheryl McCulloch of Griffin; sister and brother-in-law, Debra and Jerry Edge of Warner Robbins; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Troy Dunn, Eleanor Cobb, Joan and Charles Owens, all of Griffin, Jennie and Don Widegren, Jean and Tommy Belcher, all of Milner; many nieces, nephews and cousins; good friends, Nick and Tonya Gilbert, Rob Robinson, Reverend Don Sansburg and Sandra, Amy Durham and Debbie Kincaid. Many thanks to Sacred Journey Hospice caregivers for all your care; AnikaThompson, Deborah Mouzon, Simone Barber. A special thanks to Dr. Mark Crump for the years he cared for him. He loved you with all his heart. Visitation for Mr. William Joseph (Joe) Williams will be on Saturday, May 17, 2014 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, May 18, 2014 at 3:00pm in the Chapel of Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Reverend Don Sansburg and Pastor David Riley will officiate. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
