Jonathan Scott Adams

Mr. Jonathan Scott Adams of Griffin, loved and honored father, husband and friend passed away on Saturday, June 6. Mr. Adams was born on January 26, 1943 to the late Roger B. Adams and the late Bernice Tilford Adams Jones. He was an active member of Midway United Methodist Church, serving as certified lay speaker, lay minister, local church historian, Sunday School teacher, and choir member. He was also active in the Griffin District and the North Georgia conference of the UMC, serving as a member of the board of directors of the Simpsonwood Conference and Retreat Center and serving five terms on the Conference Commission on Archives and History. Mr. Adams served in the Air Force from 1961 to 1965. He spent many years as a television and radio broadcaster, newspaper writer and photographer. He also served as a volunteer firefighter for the Spalding County Fire Department. Other employment included office management, hardware sales, and the Georgia Labor Department. He was an accomplished gardener, woodworker and writer. Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Virginia Mangham Adams; daughter, Audra Adams; daughter and son-in-law, Sarah Adams Sambol and Neil Sambol; grandchildren, Benjamin Scott Sambol and Noelle Karen Sambol; mother-in-law, Lottie Thornton Mangham; sister and brother-in-law, Connie Adams and John McGuirk of Walpole, NH; brother and sister-in-law, Dave and Sally Adams of Troy, NH; stepmother, Corrine Adams of Jaffrey, NH; brother, Michael Adams of Jaffrey, NH; sister, Lynda Baird of Jaffrey, NH; sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Philip Marquis of Rindge, NH; and brother, Robert Adams of Clarmont, NH; aunt and uncle, Leone and Harry Welch of Pine City, NY; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A celebration of the life of Mr. Jonathan Scott Adams will be conducted on Sunday, June 14, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Reverend Terry Hunter will officiate. Friends may visit the family Saturday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Mr. Adams may be sent to Midway United Methodist Church.
