Julia H. Jester

Mrs. Julia H. Jester, age 92 of Griffin, passed away on Thursday morning, June 7, 2012 at the home of her nephew, Mr. & Mrs. Richard Jackson, after a brief illness. Mrs. Jester was born in Fulton County, Georgia on January 5, 1920 to the late William C. Hooper and to the late Viola Wilkie Hooper. The family moved to Spalding County on March 1, 1932. She graduated from the old Spalding High School Class of 1938. Julia was joined in Holy Marriage to the late Thomas Daniel Jester March 30, 1940 by Reverend Norton, the pastor of McIntosh Baptist Church at that time. Together they had joined this church and were baptized by the same pastor and remained faithful members for the rest of their lives. Julia had been a homemaker, but during WWII, she worked only briefly in Mobile, Alabama at Sears while her husband worked in the ship yard before he was called to duty near the end of the war. After his service ended, Mr. Jester started his career in the car business. Thomas ran a successful car dealership with a partner, as she dedicated her life to the needs of her parents, until their passing, and the church and its members, family and friends. She and her husband never met a stranger. Shortly after Mr. Jester’s death in March of 2003, Mrs. Jester dedicated her life to a loving devoted kitty named after her late husband’s middle name, Daniel, and called him Danny. Danny preceded her in death on May 11, 2012. She enjoyed taking part in church or family gatherings or just going out to eat so she could see others. Mrs. Jester served her church in many areas, including the Bereavement Committee until she was no longer able. She meticulously kept up with everyone’s birthday and anniversary. She enjoyed getting and sending cards along with phone calls. Mrs. Jester was the youngest of her siblings. She was preceded in death by all her brothers, sisters and their spouses; sisters, Mrs. Alpha H. (Jack) Huguley, Mrs. Willette H. (Cleveland) Jackson, Mrs. Victoria (M.H.) Brooks, along with two others that passed at an early age, Burma Jewell Hooper and Velma Hooper. Her late brothers and spouses were Hiram (Mytris) Hooper, Charles C. (Ruby) Hooper. Also preceding her in death were four nephews, Milton Brooks, David Brooks, Mason Huguley, Billy Hooper; one niece, Gloria Brooks Hankinson; one great niece, Andrea Tinley and a great nephew, Chip Luke. Mrs. Jester, having no natural children of her own, is survived by a very special nephew and his wife, Richard and Nancy H. Jackson, along with their two sons and family, John R. and Jenilee Taylor of Monroe, GA, Tim and Jessica Taylor and Master Hayden J. Taylor of Concord, GA. Her other nieces and their families include, Ramona H. Luke-Corsetti, Elizabeth and Wendell Long, Charlotte and Philip Hadarits, Cereta and Bill Tinley, Velma and Ben Jones, Kay and Bill Bishop; nieces-in-law, Jeanette W. Brooks, Leola Huguley and Vivian Hooper. She will be sorely missed by her entire family, church members along with many friends near and far. Visitation for Mrs. Julia H. Jester will be on Saturday, June 9, 2012 from 4:00pm until 6:00pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, June 10, 2012 at 4:00pm in the Chapel of Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Reverend Rick Whitlock and Reverend Charles Johnson will officiate. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to McIntosh Baptist Church, 2222 West McIntosh Road, Griffin, GA 30223 in memory of Mrs. Jester.
