June Neel

Mrs. Barbara LaJune Neel of Griffin, passed away at home on Saturday, June 14, 2014, at the age of 75. She is the beloved wife of Dr. Armon B. Neel, Jr, whom she was married to for 52 years. Mrs. Neel was born in Commerce, Georgia on December 12, 1938. Her death is preceded by her parents, Theodore and Grace Chambers. Mrs. Neel was a graduate of the University of Georgia where she received her degree in Home Economics, Art and Interior Design, she was a member of the AOTT Sorority, she was a former teacher with the Griffin Spalding County School System, and before her health declined, she was a real estate agent with Murray Company. She was an amazing artist and one of the charter members of the Morning Glory Garden Club. Mrs. Neel was a professional collector, loved to cook, shop for anything especially clothing, antiques and even enjoyed helping others shop. Mrs. Neel was a sweet person inside and out, she was there for anyone who was in need of support or just to give an encouraging word. She loved writing calligraphy until her health declined, never complained about anything through her illness. The family would like to give a special thanks to, Geraldine Jackson for being a friend to June through the good times and through her illness these fifty or more years, also to the Brightmoor Hospice and granddaughter, Elizabeth for the care they helped with June. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Dr. Armon B. Neel, Jr; son, Armon B. “Tripp” Neel III and his wife, Rebecca; son, Ellington Camp Neel and his wife, Julie, all of Griffin; grandchildren, Grant Neel, Alex Neel, Lindsey Neel, Elizabeth Neel, Emily Neel, Drake Neel and Madison Neel; brother, William Chambers of Gainesville, GA; nephew, Tommy Chambers of Los Angeles, CA; cousin, Martha Holcomb of Lake Lanier. Visitation for Mrs. June Neel will be on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 from 1:00pm until 2:00pm in the Parlor of First United Methodist Church. Following the visitation a funeral service will be held at 2:00pm in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First United Methodist Church, 1401 Maple Drive, Griffin, GA 30224 or the American Cancer Society, 301 Kelly Dr., Ste 3, Peachtree City, GA 30269 in memory of June.
