Kenneth Wayne McKneely

Kenneth Wayne McKneely of Atlanta passed away Monday, June 27, 2016 after fighting Glioblastoma, an aggressive, non-curable brain tumor. He was 61 Years old. Kenny was born in Griffin, Georgia, on May 30, 1955. He was a graduate of Griffin High School, class of 1972. He was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Atlanta, and a former member of Second Baptist Church in Griffin. On August 23, 1987 he received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree, graduating Magna Cum Laude; and on June 20, 1992 he graduated with a Master of Science degree in computer information systems, both degrees were from Georgia State University in Atlanta. Earlier in his career, he worked for Atlanta Gas Light Company and the Atlanta Journal- Constitution. For 27 years he was employed at Centers for Disease Control; first in a managerial position in the Network Technology branch, and later as a deputy director of informatics at the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services (NIOSH), in Atlanta. Kenny was a runner, and for many years he participated in the Peachtree Road Race. He was a Georgia Tech fan, a tennis enthusiast, and he loved music, attending concerts when he could, and playing his guitars for self-enjoyment. On weekends he often could be found working on his cars. He looked forward to spending time at his favorite place in the world, his Florida house on Cape San Blas; cooking, eating at favored places, and spending time with Bonnie, his Sheltie. Kenny was generous, kind and caring, and had a big friendly smile for everyone. He was a humble man with a brilliant mind. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Gene and Florine McKneely, and Glover and Blondene Nolan; nephew, David Madison Miller and father-in-law, Jack Stewart. Survivors include his wife, Kaye Stewart McKneely of Atlanta; mom and dad, Betty and Wayne McKneely of Griffin; sister, Jan McKneely Miller and husband, Johnny of Milledgeville; niece, Rachel Miller Wood and husband, Levi of Milledgeville; mother-in-law, Beth Stewart of Chipley, Florida; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Greg and Cindy Stewart and son, Jordan of Maysville, Georgia; sister-in-law, Cheri Stewart of Panama City, Florida, and many other loved ones and friends. Much love and appreciation is extended to those who spent time with Kenny during his illness. He will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved him. A celebration of life service will be held on Monday, July 18, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 731 Peachtree Street, N.E., Atlanta, Georgia, 30308.
