Lakecia TaJuan Brownlee Bettis

Mrs. Lakecia Ta Juan Brownlee Bettis, age 38 of Griffin passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at Emory University Hospital. Mrs. Bettis was born on August 31, 1970 in Spalding County. Lakecia attended school in Spalding County and graduated from Griffin High School in 1988. LaKecia continued her education at Griffin Technical College and later graduated from Flint River Technical College in the field of Medical Assisting. She was a Quality Inspector at Cooper Standard. LaKecia joined the Heavenly Way Baptist Church at an early age and served there on the Praise Team, Choir Member, Assistant Church Secretary, Children’s Choir Director and Junior Usher. LaKecia was an extremely loving, kind and generous person who was absolutely adored by her family and friends. LaKecia had a beautiful personality and infectious smile. She loved the Lord and loved to laugh and embraced the company of others. She loved to have fun and was blessed with a special love for anyone’s children and worked with them in various activities. Survivors include her husband, Martin Bettis of Griffin; children, Rodriquez Ja’Ques Lashad Brownlee, Lakeithia Ashea De’Jaun Brownlee, Octavious De’Andre Ra’Shad Brownlee, Rontavious De Marcus Senquez Brownlee, Brandon Marterious Bettis ; granddaughter, A’Ziyah D’Ahmontia Maddox; mother, LaWanda L. Brownlee; father, Herman W. Brownlee, Sr. and his wife, Michelle; brother, Herman W. (Rataisha) Brownlee, Jr. of Griffin; great-grandmother, Addie J. Smith; grandparents, Cora McCune, Thelma Brownlee, Adelle and John Lewis Dewberry; mother-in-law, Annie Kate Wilson; sisters-in-law, Shirley (Thomas) Byrd-Hightower, Annette Wilson, Betty (Dwayne) Phillips, Ella Beckham, Laura (Freeman) Shropshire, Tracy (Perry) Wilson, Karen Wynn, Erica (Chico) Pagan-Nixon ; brothers-in-law, Raymond (Sonja) Stokes, and Clifton Bettis; aunts and uncles, Harold J. Head, Samuel L. and Gwendolyn Head, Randy and Trena Brownlee, Frederick S. Brownlee, Gary (Tammie) Fletcher; a host of nieces, nephews, great-aunts and great-uncles; godmother, Janice Moore; and a special friend, Kawajelyn Wilder. Funeral services for Mrs. Lakecia Bettis will be conducted on Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at 12:30 p.m. at Eighth Street Baptist Church. Pastor Antoine Lucas will officiate. Dr. A.C. O’Neal will do the eulogy. Interment will follow in Griffin Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit the family Monday evening from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
