Marthlyn Chappell

Mrs. Marthlyn Jones Fisher Chappell, 94, passed away on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at Brightmoor Assisted Living where she had resided for the past several years. Mrs. Chappell was born on January 1, 1916 in Spalding County to the late Jesse M. Jones and Genevieve Jones. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Chappell was preceded in death by her husband’s Bennett C. Fisher and Emmett E. Chappell, three brothers W. T. Jones, Harold Jones and Pat Jones and two sister’s Mary Kate Scott and Evelyn Perkins, step-son Emory "Sock"Chappell and two step-daughters Wilma Radcliffe and Carolyn Bates. After being a homemaker while her children were at home, Mrs. Chappell was employed by the Dundee Towel Shop where she became manager and continued to work until she retired at the age of 76. For many years, she was an active member of DeVotie Baptist Church. Two sons survive Mrs. Chappell, Maury (Sandy) Fisher of Douglasville, Ga. and Don Scott Fisher of Griffin. She is also survived by a stepdaughter Joan Branyon of Jacksonville Beach, Fla. and two daughters-in-law Sandra Chappell of Atlanta, Ga. and Ann Fisher of Griffin. Her grandchildren are Brent (Kelly) Fisher of Jackson, Ga. and Cameron (Tammy) Fisher of Galena, Ohio and Kaylyn (Glen) Brown of Huntsville, Ala. Her step-grandchildren are Scott (Janice) Chappell of Charlotte, N.C., Leigha (Trent) Wirtz of Marietta, Joni Lynn (Steve) Pentz of Vero Beach, Fla. and Lisa (Morgan) Skinner, Jacksonville, Fla. along with many great-grandchildren, step great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family is very grateful to Dr. Robert Hall for his kind and professional care of Mrs. Chappell for many years. Words cannot express enough the family’s gratitude to the Brightmoor Assisted Living staff. The family would like to personally thank Tiffany Virden, Ruth Diaz, Mary Smith, Sheila Byrd, Lisa Boggs, Bernice Buckner, Susanne (Sue) Chappell, Anglea Dickerson, Deborah Ivie, Janessa Jester, Carol Josie, Priscilla Jones, Dawn Mattice, Judy McBerry, Phyliss Montgomery, Minnie Redding, Debbie Robertson, Shaunta Thomas, Cynthia White, Schwanda Mayes, Joyce Norton, Shannon Gilbert, Denise Roberts, Sarah Suber, Brenda Uqdah and Rici Andrews and to the entire Brightmoor Hospice staff. Graveside services for Mrs. Marthlyn Chappell will be Wednesday, May 19th at 2 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery. Her son Rev. Maury J. Fisher will officiate. Friends may visit the family from 6:00 to 8:00 Tuesday evening, May 18th and prior to the grave side service at 12:30 to 1:30 on Wednesday afternoon, May 19th at the Funeral Home.
