Mozell Bibbs Sanders

Mozell Bibbs Sanders, age 85, resident of Griffin, Georgia passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2013. Born to the late R.C. and Ruby Bibbs of Concord in Pike County, Georgia, Mrs. Sanders joined the Free Liberty Methodist Church in Williamson, Georgia, and later, the Eighth Street Baptist Church in Griffin. In April of 1966, she connected her membership with Sacred Heart Catholic Church there. A dedicated and beloved member of the Sacred Heart community, during her 47 years of membership, she sang in the church choir, belonged to the Altar Society and the Ladies’ Guild, and served as secretary for the Parish Council. After graduation from Vocational High School in Griffin and Reid Business School in Atlanta, Mrs. Sanders attended Spelman College for two years, and then embarked upon her professional life. She worked for Atlanta Life Insurance Company, as well as for the First National Bank of Griffin, and later as a paraprofessional, retired from the Griffin Spalding County School System. Mrs. Sanders served as a hospital auxiliary for Spalding County Regional Hospital, secretary for the Women’s Voters League, as Voter Registration Deputy, and as P.T.A. President for two schools. She was a member of the Variety Garden Club, V.F.W. Post 8480 and American Legion Post 546 auxiliaries. She delivered Meals on Wheels from the Senior Center, and prepared and delivered Thanksgiving meals for shut-ins and those in need. She belonged to the Tuesday Seniors’ Bowling League, and played both bridge and pool. Mrs. Sanders felt keenly the loss of her husband and daughter, Moses C. Sanders, Sr. and Sandra A. Jones, who predeceased her. Her survivors include son Moses C. Sanders, Jr. of Starkville, Mississippi; grandsons Roger B. Jones III and wife, Tina, and Maurice A. Jones and wife Jennifer, all of Morristown, New Jersey; great-grandchildren, Jade N. and Jason A. Jones, also of Morristown. In addition to a host of relatives and friends, Mrs. Sanders’ extended family includes Mrs. Rozalyn Todd of McDonough, Georgia; Karol and Paul Walker of Morristown, New Jersey; Doris Baker of Griffin, Georgia; and Tom and Karen Lacey of Williamson, Georgia. Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. A Rosary Service will follow the visitation at 7:00pm. Funeral Mass will be conducted on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Father Dennis Juan will officiate. Interment will follow in Griffin Memorial Gardens.
