Oscar Leon Davis

Mr. Oscar Leon Davis, age 78 of Griffin passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2009. Mr. Davis was born on August 6, 1930 in Mitchell County, Georgia to the late Oscar Lee Davis and the late LaVinia Palmer Davis. He is preceded in death by daughter, Laurie Cavender. Mr. Davis served in the United States Marine Corps from 1948 until 1952. He served in the invasion of Enchon, Korea; the Capture of Seoul, South Korea; and Battle of Chosin Reservoir, North Korea. He was a Life member of First Marine Division Association and Life member of the Marine Corps League, member of Chosen Few Association, Life member of the Disable American Veterans, Life member of George Company Third Battalion, First Marines and the American Legion. He served as Past President of the Peace Officers Association of Georgia, Voice of Veterans and Judge Advocate of the Marine Corps League. Mr. Davis graduated from Georgia South Western College, Georgia State University and Atlanta Law School. He earned his LLB Bachelor’s Degree in Law and LLM Master’s Degree. Leon had worked for the United States Department of Justice as a Deputy Marshall and worked for the United States Treasury Department in the Narcotics Division. Later, he worked for the Georgia Department of Corrections as a Counselor and Transfer Officer. He worked for the City of Griffin Police Department and the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office. Mr. Davis was a member of Second Baptist Church and also attended Rock Springs Church in Milner. Survivors include his wife Jacquelynn Davis; children and their spouses, Wanda and John BoBo of Shady Dale, GA, Lisa and Mike Rivers of Middleburg, Florida, Lynne and Jeff Grooms of Conyers, GA; grandchildren, Mark Bryan, Leah Prince, Rachel Rivers, Heather Schwartz and Brian Grooms; great-grandchildren, Ella Bryan, Sophia Bryan, Mara Bryan, Haylee Prince, Hunter Prince, Dawson Schwartz and Shelby Schwartz. Funeral services for Mr. Leon Davis will be conducted on Friday, February 6, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Second Baptist Church in Griffin. Marine Corps League Chaplain Paul Hinton and Reverend Franklin Gibson will officiate. Interment will follow in Westwood Gardens. Friends may visit the family Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Davis will lie-in-state on Friday at the church from 12noon until the funeral hour.
