Owen H. Joiner

Mr. Owen Huff Joiner, age 83 of Griffin, was called home by his Lord and Savior on Monday, February 3, 2014, as his wife and son stood vigil. Mr. Joiner was born in Griffin, Georgia on September 29, 1930, to the late William Jordan (Daddy) Joiner and Mary Huff (Mama) Joiner. Owen was the last survivor of five brothers known as "the Joiner Boys." Owen, along with his brothers Charles, Edwin, Lewis and Ralph were raised on the Highland Mill Village in Griffin, at a time when the world was a much smaller place. After graduating from Spalding High School in 1948, Mr. Joiner served his country as a Corporal in the U. S. Army Signal Corps during the Korean War. Owen married Leatrice Miller in 1954 and together they made their home in Griffin, where, soon afterwards they welcomed their son Barry Joiner. He was known as "the Baby Food Man" as he traveled as a salesman for Gerber Products Company for many years. He worked for Eastern Airlines, which allowed he and his family to enjoy many wonderful trips together. Owen worked as a jailor for both the Spalding County Sheriff's Department and the Griffin Police Department, where he was known as "Mr. J." After his retirement, he worked as a Bailiff for the Spalding County Court system. Owen also supplied specialty advertising products to hundreds of loyal customers as a sales representative of the Ad-Gift’s Company of Tyler Texas. Owen, a man of unwavering faith, was a member of Second Baptist Church of Griffin. He will be sorely missed and forever cherished in the hearts of all those who were lucky enough to know and love him. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Leatrice M. Joiner; son, Barry O. Joiner; in-laws Carl and Adell Miller of Newnan, GA; Mildred Furr of Fayetteville, GA; Lurline Dickinson of Union City, GA; many nieces and nephews. Visitation for Mr. Owen H. Joiner will be on Sunday, February 9, 2014 from 1:00pm until 2:00pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Joe Fabean and Dr. Robert Hayden will officiate the service to honor the life of Mr. Joiner which will be conducted in the Chapel at 2:00pm. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan, GA. Serving as pallbearers will be Joe Joiner, Chuck Joiner, Eddie Joiner, Terry Seiders, Rynn Goldstein and Lindsey Laster.
