Rose Lee Parrish

Rose Lee Hudson Parrish was born to the late Richard Hudson and Annie Matthew Hudson on September 1, 1933 in the county of Dinwiddie, Virginia. She entered eternal rest on Sunday, May 6, 2012 at the home of her daughter in Griffin, Georgia. She attended the schools of Dinwiddie County and enjoyed playing softball and cooking in her youth. She was an avid domestic caregiver and used her skills to find work in New York City, NY where she met her husband the late Alfred C. Parrish of Lynchburg, VA. The two were married in 1958. To this union God blessed them with four daughters, who are more affectionately known as the “Parrish Girls”. They are Belinda Parrish-Jordan (Ronnie), Esther Parrish-Chowdhury, Miriam Parrish-Boulware, and Kim Parrish-Roberts (Joseph). She was a precious wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, friend, and now a great-grandmother. Her greatest legacies were the virtues she instilled in the women around her. The lessons of being a lady, having a clean home, and being a Godly woman will be forever treasured. She taught us how to make beds with hospital’s corners in the morning, and at night wash the tub before bed. She also gave subtle instructions in the kitchen. It is her humbleness before God, her passion for cooking, and her attention to details that will always be remembered. As a girl she attended Eleven Oaks Baptist Church in Dewitt, Virginia. She later joined and was baptized at Mt. Zion C.M.E. Church at 1148 Elder Ave, Bronx, New York. There she was a member of the Pastor’s Aide Board, Missionary Board, Usher Board, and Hospitality committee. She worked tirelessly on various projects and loved to travel with the church to the many revivals and conferences. As a young woman she worked for too many families to name, in order to make a living and to help provide for her family. She was so well respected for the domestic excellence that she provided to these families, that she was often called upon to cater parties for them. As a result she was able to take a lead position at a private estate in San Angelo, Texas. After retiring she moved to Griffin, Georgia. There she joined Tabernacle of Joy M.D.C. where she served on the Mother’s Board. The Tabernacle family remembers her, in addition to the previously mentioned qualities; as a gracious lady in heels, and for her quick wit and spunkiness. Affectionately known by her siblings as Rosa Lee, she leaves to cherish her memories; her four daughters, her two devoted sons-in-law, her two brothers, Joseph Matthews of Dinwiddie County, Virginia, and John Matthews, Sr. (Edith) of Hopewell, Virginia, one sister Laura Matthews of Petersburg, Virginia, a dear sister-in-law Lydia Matthews of Petersburg, Virginia and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Rose Lee Hudson Parrish will be conducted on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at 6:30pm at Tabernacle of Joy Church, www.tabernacleofjoymdc.org. Interment will follow on Friday, May 11, 2012 at 10:00 am in Griffin Memorial Gardens. The family will assemble at the residence, 495 Futral Rd., Griffin on Thursday at 6pm.
