Ruth Post Phillips

Mrs. Ruth Post Phillips, age 94 of Barnesville, formerly of Griffin, passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2011at The Heritage Inn in Barnesville. Mrs. Phillips was born on September 21, 1916 in Grantville, Georgia to the late Herschel Vernon Post and the late Ruby Pearl Robertson Post. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Willie Marion “Buddy” Phillips, his loving grandchildren called him “Doodlebug”, also preceded in death by son, Joseph Donald Phillips and his wife Sandra Sheffield Phillips, son, Larry Wayne Phillips. Mrs. Phillips was one of eleven children. She is also preceded in death by her sibling Herschel Vernon Post, Jr., Estelle Post Gatlin and husband Oscar Sibley Gatlin, Lucille Post Williams and husband Erby Williams, Allene Post White and husband Grady White, Betty Post Cato; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Douglas Hopkins, Chalmes Pass, Bruce Redding, Clara Mae Phillips Jimmerson and husband Reverend Marvin Jimmerson, Virginia Phillips Gowan and husband Zachary Gowan, Effie Lee Phillips Gibson, Mary Phillips O’Kelly and husband Carl O’Kelly, Martha Ellen Phillips Scott, James David Phillips. Mrs. Phillips was a member of the Barnesville First Baptist Church, Young at Heart, Sara Reeves Sunday School Class. She retired from the Spalding Knitting Mill. Survivors include daughter, Frankie Phillips Knowles and her husband Bryans C. “Jack” Knowles; daughter-in-law, Ruth Rodgers Phillips; grandchildren, Joseph Donald Phillips, Jr. and wife Vicki Phillips, Jill Phillips Sellers, M.D. and husband William Sellers, Ivy Knowles Blackmon and husband Mike Blackmon, Ellen Knowles Rowe and husband Earl Rowe, Beverly Knowles Blackmon and husband Mickey Blackmon, Lora Knowles Ray and husband Jeremy Ray, Rip Rodgers; great grandchildren, Michael Blackmon, Jr., Ethan Rowe, Emily Rowe, Byron Blackmon, Katherine Blackmon, Elizabeth Blackmon, Reagan Ray, Taylor Ray, Matthew Phillips, Madelyn Phillips, Christopher Sellers, Laura Sellers; sisters, Sara Post Redding, Evelyn Post Pass, Margaret Post Hopkins; brothers, Wylie Taylor Post and wife, Betty Post, Zachary Allen Post and wife, Joan Post; sister-in-law Catherine Phelps Phillips; brothers-in-law, George Cato, James Scott, Homer Lee Gibson; many nieces and nephews. Visitation with the family of Mrs. Ruth Post Phillips will be on Monday, May 2, 2011 from 1:30 p.m. until 3:00pm at the funeral home. A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Reverend Garth Forester will officiate. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Griffin, Georgia.
