Samuel Rutherford Bunn Sr.

Mr. Samuel Rutherford Bunn, Sr., age 84 of Griffin, passed away on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at Eternal Hope Hospice. Sam was born in Forsyth, Georgia on January 17, 1931, the son of the late Albert Franklin Bunn and the late Eleanor Rutherford Bunn. His maternal grandfather, for whom he was named, was the late Samuel Rutherford, former congressman for the Sixth Congressional District of Georgia. Sam received the Eagle Scout Badge and the God and Country Award as a member of Troop 51 BSA. He attended Georgia Military College and was a graduate of Emory University School of Business Administration and a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity, Alpha Phi Omega and Alpha Kappa Psi. Sam served in the U. S. Navy and was a retired Lieutenant Commander. He served as International Director of the U. S. Jaycees and in 1965 was named Outstanding Young Man of the Year by the Griffin Jaycees. Sam was a member of Carver Road Baptist Church. In 1973, he was responsible for forming the Griffin Chapter of the Full Gospel Businessmen’s Fellowship and served many years as president. In 1993, Sam retired as manager of the Sunbelt Credit Union. Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Faye Jimmerson Ballard Bunn; children, Gail Bunn Park (Sam) of Zebulon, Sam Bunn, Jr. of Williamson, Terrell S. Bunn (Lisa) of Fayetteville, and Julianne Bunn Bozeman (Stan) of Norcross; three step-children, Greg Ballard (Darleene) of Griffin, Anita Ballard Zahn (Paul) of Locust Grove, and Cindy Ballard Deason of Griffin; 6 grandchildren, Bryan McBride, Kevin Bunn, Ashlyn Bozeman Carter, Kaycee Bunn Montgomery, Bailee Bunn and Jada Mathis; ten step-grandchildren, Mandi Zahn McGhin, Jared Zahn, Ben Zahn, Jana Zahn, Samuel Turner Zahn, Nate Zahn, Daniel Zahn, Levi Zahn, Garrett Deason, Abigail Deason Blessitt; twelve great-grandchildren; sister, Susan Bunn Woodward (Billy); two nieces, Kitty Woodward Grubbs and Julie Woodward Ward; several step nieces. Visitation for Mr. Samuel Rutherford Bunn, Sr. will be on Monday, November 30, 2015 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at 1:00pm at Carver Road Baptist Church.. Reverend Jim Hardie, Reverend Tom Summers and Reverend Dan McFarland will officiate. Interment will follow in Forsyth City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to Eternal Hope Hospice, 123 North 18th Street, Griffin, GA 30223.
