William C. (Bill) Dixon, Jr.

William C. (Bill) Dixon, Jr. age 49, passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2009 at Spalding Regional Medical Center after a valiant fight against cancer. He was born on September 8, 1959 in Fulton County to Carroll William Dixon and Adelia Boyd Dixon, but was a life long resident of Spalding County. He was predeceased by his grandparents, James and Elizabeth Boyd of Griffin and Calvin and Annie Dixon of Cairo, GA. Bill graduated from Griffin Academy in 1977 and attended Gordon College. He joined the Navy and was assigned to the Nuclear Power Program. While being tested by the Navy, he was found to be a candidate for the Mensa organization which he then joined. He accepted Christ and was baptized at Vineyard Baptist Church and later moved his membership to Oak Hill Baptist Church. Bill was a self-taught musician on the guitar and keyboard and loved all kinds of music. He was an avid student of nature and may be remembered by some students at Griffin Christian Academy for sharing his knowledge and collection of rock and mineral samples. He will be remembered by many who were clients of his wife’s business, Dixon Tax Services, as he visited and talked with them. William (Bill) C. Dixon, Jr. is survived by his wife, Judy Wilson Dixon; daughter, Sarah Dixon; two sons, Ben Dixon and Gary Walker and his wife, Holly; two grandchildren, Arianna and Ty Walker. He is also survived by his parents, Carroll and Adelia Dixon; sister, Katrina Benton and her husband, Steve; brother, Boyd Dixon and his wife, Sharon; niece, Kady Dixon; nephews Jake, Coby and Ryan Dixon, nephew, Shaun Benton and his wife, Dana, their children, Kade, Kaleb and Kensley, nephew Jason Benton and his wife, Diana and their daughter, Aubrey Benton. He is also survived by great-aunt, Margaret Sutherland; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Frank and Emily Wilson; sister-in-law, Beth Griffin and her husband, David; sister-in-law, Emily Ebinger and her husband, David; brother-in-law, Frank Wilson, Jr. and his wife, Melissa. Bill is survived by many other family and friends, but very special thanks to his cousin, Chad Dixon who has cared for him so tirelessly for many months. Services for William (Bill) C. Dixon, Jr. will be conducted in the Chapel of Conner-Westbury Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 18, 2009. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive visitors on Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
