Wilma P. Daniel

Mrs. Wilma Irene (Pritchett) Daniel, departed this life peacefully on August 24, 2016 at her residence. Mrs. Daniel was born in Griffin, Georgia on November 26, 1922, one of seven children to Charles Clarence Pritchett and Ida Belle Denham Pritchett. She is preceded in death by her parents; six siblings: brother Roy, sister Tommy Lou, brother Charles Clarence Jr, brother Elmo, sister Polly, and brother Laurie; and her beloved husband, Master Chief Clifford “Dan” B. Daniel, USN retired. She leaves to cherish her memories, daughter Scotti Daniel Statham and husband, Michael; son Thomas “Tom” Daniel, son Charles “Chuck” Daniel and wife, Malinda, all of Griffin; grandson, Michael “Allen” Statham and his wife, Jessica of Athens; granddaughter Alicia Renee Daniel of Athens; niece Pat Jones and husband, Buddy of Zebulon; and special in her life was Dr. Vinod Mehta, his staff and Dr. Rosa Clemente. Mrs. Daniel was of the Catholic faith and attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Griffin for more than 55 years. One of her most treasured accomplishment was service to her country during World War II. She was one of the first women to enlist in the Army, where she trained and served as a Surgical Technician, achieving the rank of Sergeant. While assigned to Lawson General Hospital (Atlanta Naval Air Station) she met her husband to be. Upon discharge, she and Dan married, and faithfully served the USN for 30 years at various assignments around the country, including Pearl Harbor. While she lived all over the world, she was most happy in her hometown of Griffin. After her husband’s retirement they purchased a home in Griffin, where they could raise their family and live out their life. Dogs and cats, especially strays, occupied a special place in her heart. Anyone who met her would know she never met a stranger, and loved to talk to everyone, and cared for all. She was truly a Southern Lady and lived her life to the very end. Visitation for Mrs. Wilma P. Daniel will be on Saturday, August 27, 2016 from 12:00pm until 1:00pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Following the visitation, a funeral service will be conducted in the chapel. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
