Winford E. "Wink" Taylor

Mr. Winford Eugene (Wink) Taylor, age 77 of Griffin passed away Monday, December 24, 2007 at the Piedmont-Newnan Hospital. Mr. Taylor was born in Grantville, Georgia on January 29, 1930 to the late Emmit Taylor and the late Pauline Ivey Taylor. Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by a son, Mike Taylor. He worked hard all his life. Mr. Taylor started in the United States Army in the 1950’s, when he came home he met the love of his life, they married and moved to San Antonio, Texas., where he worked in civil service at Kelly Air Force Base and always had a second job to provide for his family. The family moved back to Georgia in 1968 and he went to work at Woolco and then J.C. Penny’s until he retired. After retirement he had a lawn care service, and then went to work at Hammond Service’s, while there he began to pick-up any and all junk that needed to be hauled off. Nothing was too big or too heavy, he would recycle everything. That is what he loved to do and that is what he was doing when he died. He was a member of the West Sunnyside Community Church. Mr. Taylor was an avid golfer and belonged to the Heart of Georgia Senior Golf Association and the Pine Mountain Seniors Golf Association. He loved to tell jokes and make people laugh. Everyone who knew “Wink” loved him. Wink was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was our hero, the one who always made us feel safe. Words can not explain how much we loved him and how much he will be missed He is survived by his wife and soul mate, Barbara Ann Hammond Taylor; children, Johanna McGhee and husband, Larry of Hogansville, Rita Ware and husband Keith of Griffin, Tim Taylor and wife, Rhonda serving as missionaries overseas, Ken Taylor and wife Karen of McDonough; grandchildren, Chris and Marion McGhee, Wayne and Elizabeth Carter, Julie and Rick White, Jennifer McGhee, Jeremy and Alyson McGhee, Leigh Taylor, Faith Taylor, Zachery Taylor; great grandchildren, Brandon, Breanna, Brook, Brittney, CJ, Camille and Isabella; sister and brother-in -law, Barbara and Ed Hammond; brothers and sisters-in-law Ricky and Sarah Taylor, Donald and Imogene Taylor; sister, Jane Stewart; nieces and nephews that all loved him dearly. Funeral services for Mr. Wink Taylor will be conducted Thursday, December 27, 2007 at 3pm at the West Sunnyside Community Church. Reverend Billy Anderson and Reverend Hugh Smith will officiate. Interment will follow in the Griffin Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit the family on Wednesday from 7-9pm at the funeral home and from 1:00 pm until 2:30 pm at the West Sunnyside Community Church.
