Agnes Folds Chaney

Mrs. Agnes Lavenia Folds Chaney, age 91 of Griffin, passed away Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at Christian Ministries Hospice. Mrs. Chaney was born on August 9, 1918 in Haralson County to the late Benjamin Folds and the late Tealie Jane Belcher Folds. She lived most of her adult life in Griffin. Being the oldest of seven, she spent many long days working in fields; doing chores at home and helping her mother take care of the younger children until she married on November 2, 1935 to start her own family. Mrs. Chaney was the wife of Queenus Roosevelt (John) Chaney, the mother to 8 children, grandmother to 21 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and many great-great grandchildren. She was affectingly known and loved as Mama or Momo by all her sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandson-in-law, granddaughter-in-law and many close friends. She was a home maker, helped raise many of her grandchildren, and loved to cook, make homemade quilts the old fashion way and crocheted afghans. She was a former member of Sandy Flat Baptist Church in Bowdon, Georgia, and member of Midway United Methodist Church of Griffin. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Chaney is preceded in death by husband, Queenus Roosevelt (John) Chaney, sons, John Benjamin (J.B.) Chaney and Curtis Leroy Chaney; granddaughter, Cinnamon Michelle Hillhouse; sisters, Mildred Folds Britt, Alma Folds White, Jewell Folds Castleberry; brother, Franklin Folds; sisters-in-law, Pauline Folds and Olea Smith; brothers-in-law, J.C. Phillips, Clifford Gray, Barlow White, Jr. Castleberry, Luther Britt, Raymond Smith and Robert Chaney; son-in-law, Henry (Jr.) C. Rigsby; aunt and uncles, Henry and Virginia Belcher, Travis Belcher; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John Chaney; many special nieces and nephews. Survivors include children, Betty Jean Rigsby Blankenship, Easter Esther Chaney, Elmer Ray Chaney and his wife, Debra, Mary Joyce Chaney Goodwin and her husband, Johnny B., Verna Mae Chaney Hillhouse Bailey and her husband, Donald E., William Lee Chaney and his wife, Tracy; daughter-in-law, Gaynell Chaney; 21 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Maudie Phillips and Thelma Gray; many nieces, nephews and very close, special friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Agnes Folds Chaney will be conducted on Saturday, September 12, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Reverend James Smith and Reverend Drew Stephens will officiate. Interment will follow in Griffin Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit the family Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
