Thomas S. "BEES 97" Akins

Thomas Akins was born on April 23, 1961 in Spalding County to Allen and Lorene Akins. He lived his life fast, and that’s the way he liked it. He had a spirit that could not be contained. It was a free spirit that loved living life to the fullest. The thrill of driving a car at 105mph, with the wind blowing in his face and music blasting on the radio was what he loved. He even made a living out of having a free spirit- he was self employed, driving on the open roads of America- a country that he loved and believed in fighting for. Thomas also had a passion for motorcycles, baseball, cooking, and nature. He loved everything beautiful and innocent- animals, birds, bees, flowers-he had a passion for those things and it speaks volumes about the heart and soul of this man. For those who knew him, you know that he was one of a kind man and he always followed the beat of his own drum. You would also know that the melody that his drum made was a beautiful one. Thomas had a big heart, contrary to what he would have some to believe. He was a great friend, son, brother, uncle, and father. He would always lend a hand to help you when he could and was never too busy for a friend. Thomas definitely knew the meaning of taking the time to stop and enjoy the smell of a flower, and to appreciate the smaller things in life. He took advantage of life and lived it hard. He accomplished many things in his short visit on earth. Thomas made his final run, in the flesh, on Friday, September 11, 2009 at his home in Griffin. His big smile, huge laugh, and even bigger heart will be greatly missed by all that he touched, but we will rejoice in knowing that Thomas’s spirit is truly now set free and we will carry on in his memory and with his theory of living life to the fullest every single day until we meet him again. Thomas leaves behind many people on this earth to cherish his memory, father and mother, Allen and Lorene Akins; daughter, Crystal Akins; sister and brother-in-law, Denise and John Eady; 3 nieces, Gracie, Brooke, and Bethany Eady; and 1 great-niece, Autumn Grace Eady, and extended family, Tana, Kristi, Kari, and their families. Thomas also had a host of other family members and friends that he loved dearly. Two in particular friends that we are grateful that he was blessed with having is Bill and Dave- thank you for blessing his life with your unconditional love and friendship, he thought the world of you. Visitation for Thomas will be on Wednesday evening at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home from 6-8 pm. Family and friends are welcomed. Memorial services will be on Thursday, September 17, 2009 at 4 pm in the Chapel of Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Reverend John Nance will officiate.
