William W. (Bill) Wesley, Jr.

William W. Wesley, Jr., 86, passed away Wednesday February 4, 2009 at Brightmoor Nursing Home. Bill was born in Spalding County on August 4, 1922 to the late William W. Wesley, Sr. and Erma Dunn Wesley. He was preceded in death by his son Carl Ricky Wesley. Mr. Wesley was a retired farm equipment dealer in Griffin. He was a past President of the Georgia Farm Equipment Dealers Association. He was an outstanding Kiwanian and past President of the Kiwanis Club of Griffin. He served on the Griffin-Spalding County Hospital Authority from 1976 to 1984. He was Chairman of the Hospital Authority in his second term. Bill was an active member, lay leader, Sunday school teacher and member of the choir of County Line United Methodist Church. He was a Trustee of Mt. Zion United Methodist Campground. He enjoyed singing in various quartets and was a member of the Southland singers. Mr. Wesley is survived by his wife of 66 years, Bertha Steele Wesley; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. William Keith and Penny P. Wesley of Griffin; daughter and son-in-law, Beth W. and Greg Whitehurst of Griffin and daughter-in-law, Janet C. Wesley of McDonough; eight grandchildren: Susan and Alan Hardwick of Griffin, Douglas and Sharon Wesley of Griffin, Brian and Amy Wesley of McDonough, Candy Wesley of McDonough, Paige and Jimmy Sliger of Griffin, Elije Whitehurst of Griffin, Brooke Whitehurst of Savannah, LeGrande Whitehurst of Savannah; twelve great-grandchildren: Curtis, Carmen, Chris and Casey Hardwick, Jenna , John Wesley, Lainee, Trey, Eli, and James Blake Sliger, Will and Meredith Wesley, and Beth Ruby and Cameron Huntsinger; sister and brother-in law, Mary Frances Griffin and Ralph Griffin of Griffin; sister-in-law, Mary Johnson of Hampton; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mr. Bill Wesley will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 7, 2009 in the Chapel of Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Reverend Gene Walton and Reverend Joe Peabody will officiate. Interment will follow in County Line United Methodist Church Cemetery. Friends may visit the family Friday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The Kiwanian’s are asked to please sit in a group at the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations and memorials be made to County Line United Methodist Church, 416 County Line Church Road, Griffin, GA 30223 or to Mt. Zion Methodist Campground, P.O. Box 355, Experiment, GA 30212 in memory of Mr. Wesley.
